This course introduces the background of various approaches in tourism planning destination
development. The foundation knowledge in environmental studies, geographical, site planning
aspects and physical aspects in tourism development are among the main focus of this course
that leads to the exposure of the significance of tourism impact on the economy, social and
environment. The expected outcome shall be based on the contemporary tourism trends and
sustainable tourism development concept, thus providing holistic perspectives of the tourism
planning scope in the real-world practices. At the end of the course, the students are able to
understand the challenges in the practice to ensure the sustainability of the natural and physical
environment through the tourism planning and development discipline. This includes the
knowledge in tourism components and organizations, motivations, and planning and
development of the destination.
