This course will draw on few selected topics in natural product chemistry. The goals of this course are to introduce major classes of natural products including their biosynthetic pathways, classification, occurrence, sources, nomenclature and physicochemical properties. Extraction and isolation methods as well as spectroscopic analysis for structural elucidation of natural product compounds will also be introduced. The importance of natural product for drug discovery through synthetic methods and for herbal product development will be highlighted.
