This course is designated to study the effects of toxic pollutants upon the structure and function of ecological system. The major focus of this course is to understand the life cycle of contaminants - how they enter the environment, the changes and transformation, and the natural processes or human activities that may reduce or eradicate these contaminants. One of the course emphases is to study organic and inorganic contaminants, their testing and regulations to curb future exposures. Materials to be covered includes basic understanding of toxicology, environmental pollutants and their effects on ecology level, hazard identification, and assessment of pollutants in population, community and ecosystem levels. Through the knowledge of this subject, student can construct on management-decision on current issue related to marine ecotoxicology.
