Salam and good day.
Dear Friends,
herewith a very short description of the course. Please have a look at it.
This course aims to explore the historical relationships between the Ottoman Caliphate and the Malay World over the centuries, from the classical era to the modern era. It examines the internal and external factors in both geographical regions that shaped these relations. It also increases knowledge, based on concrete data, about how the roles and functions of this relationship, in a constant way, construct the political and religious images and perceptions of people in respective geographies. Beyond the direct communications and correspondences between respective states and rulers, the course also examines economic-political and religious issues pertaining to the civilizational dimension, as a fundamental ground, arising from regional and global developments commencing in the late 15th century. This subject opens the doors to comprehend the definite relationships in a critical and interpretative way, taking into consideration longue durée. The students explore the historiography of the relationships between the Ottoman and Malay Worlds, comparing it with the major theoretical and analytical approaches.
