This course provides introduction to biochemistry of macro- and micronutrients with a limited focus on
medical aspects of nutrient deficiencies and metabolism. Topics will include the structure and metabolism of
proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, vitamins and minerals, and the integration of metabolic systems. Included also
will be the chemistry of nitrogenous bases and how transcription and translation is accomplished on the
cellular level. The main goal of this course is to prepare undergraduate students for more advanced nutritional
biochemistry courses such as advanced nutrition.
